Long story short, some dealer from Seattle pops up out of nowhere and makes him an offer he can't refuse. My neighbor's happy. The financial fires are now quenched. I'm happy too.

Maybe now the fucker will let me use his empty garage to finish my damn bike.

Believe me, that was a feat in itself with all the dumb house renovating crap I got stuffed in there. I cleaned up the springer and wanted to see how it looked in the light. Pretty good so the chrome bill just got lighter.

I considered Bear Parts Co, but then I saw the Haifley Bates and figured I'd give them a try. Glad I did. Great craftmanship, very close to the original Bates ribbed seats, and it has a Chrome pan.

So far, I've only actually paid for the pistons and rings and magneto. Got caught up in some bullshit and couldn't make it to The One Show this weekend. Closest I got to seeing other bikes was when a cool old dude showed up at my neighbor's house pushing a BSA he just copped. From what I gathered while bullshitting with him, he traded a $1200 lottery ticket for it. The wiring looked questionable at best, zip ties and duct tape all over the place. But he put a new battery and some oil in her and she started right up. Still needs work, though. Smokes a bit, and oil dribbling from the spigots ain't a good sign.

The horn looks like a fucking trombone hanging off the front. Sucker was loud too.

Of course, I'm biased and all, but for reals, my big brother Kerry Lee, who his buddies used to call Link or Masterlink, is the baddest motherfucker I'll ever know. I love the hell out of him. Always generous with his knowledge, scored me bikes, parts, cars on the cheap whenever I was on the hunt, and generally saved my ass whenever I was in trouble.

When I started this goofy ass blog, I wanted to pay tribute to him. Somehow the Masterlink thing mixed with my pimp, kung-fu, Dolemite obsessions and there you go, Dojo of Destruction. Nevertheless, it all started with big bruv the sensei, a stone-handed pimp, backyard/basement/3rd floor apartment bike builder since he was sixteen, and Jedi transmission specialist.

Anyway, I got to visit the fam back in VA over the holidays and I scanned some of his pictures from the late 70s/early 80s.

A hazy Polaroid of the trike he built in our basement and backyard when I was a little fart. He used to pick me up from grade school on this thing and the teachers would look at us like we were fucking criminals. I loved it. Actually, I love springers because of the extended springer he had on that bike.

I know, I know. Laugh all you want, but I'm not ashamed to post a picture of my light-skinned ass posing in my Underoos. (What! Like you didn't wear Underoos, motherfucker!)

Ghetto backyard building, milk crates and all. At some point he swapped the springer onto his sporty for a minute.

One of many triumphs. I loved this bike.

Another Triumph. Extended springer on the sporty again, fiberglass tank and fender. That fucking bike screamed like Al Green hit with a pot of hot grits.

3rd floor apartment style from a few years ago. An Evo he built before swapping it out for a cone shovel and the Triumph he put together for his wife, hence the big ass seat.

The sensei today, still ready to knock a nucca out. (By the way, he'd think this post is lame, but he doesn't use a computer so he'll probably never see it. Ha!)
